The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international association for computing enthusiasts and professionals. Founded in 1947, it was one of the first scientific and computing societies in the world. The international headquarters of ACM are located in New York City, USA. ACM is world renowned for sponsoring computer science related events such as the ACM International Collegeiate Programming Contest (ICPC), Student Research Competition (SRC), Student Chapter Excellence Awards, Upsilon Chapter Excellence Awards for the students, apart from having published a large number of specialized journals, magazines and newsletters. It boasts of a strength of over 92,000 registered members which include both students, professors as well as industrial professionals.
ACM has three main kinds of chapters: Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Professional Chapters and Student Chapters. ACM MPSTME is a student chapter at the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME). It is one of the 500+ College and University chapters under ACM's international body. ACM MPSTME is the official student chapter of ACM in Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering.
The ACM MPSTME student chapter has taken several initiatives to help students become excellent professionals. These include conducting of seminars, technical workshops and conferences on a variety of topics. Also, exclusive access to ACM's world renowned Digital Library is provided, which holds tons of verified data which is not available anywhere else. The most noteworthy of ACM MPSTME's events include the Open Book Programming Competition (I and II) that was held at MPSTME (powered by CodeChef India), the Information Security Seminar, "Create a Search Engine in 30 minutes", the Royal Treasure Hunt and BlogCamp Mumbai. ACM MPSTME also releases a magazine titled ‘Machine Head’ which contains information on the activities of ACM MPSTME and also articles on various hot technical topics.
ACM strengthens the computing profession’s collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life-long learning, career development, and professional networking. Here at ACM MPSTME, we work towards helping Technology students achieve a different skill level by helping them enhance their skill sets.
Part of the philosophy observed by our association is to provide its members with a large knowledge pool so that they can build on what they already know and become better individuals and professionals, hence the student chapter does it's best to organise meetings with renowned professionals in various fields who can guide students with their insights and unique techniques. Contrary to popular belief, our committee accepts and caters to students from all types of engineering streams, not just Computer Science and IT.
The committee is spearheaded by Mr. Ketan Shah, the Faculty-in-charge of ACM MPSTME, and Keyur Shah, the Chairperson of ACM MPSTME.
